Tobacco baron K K Mishra’s son Shivam Mishra was arrested on Thursday in connection with the Lamborghini crash on Kanpur’s VIP Road four days after the incident then the speeding sports car rammed into pedestrians, triggering widespread outrage.
The arrest comes a day after the additional chief judicial magistrate (VII), Kanpur Nagar, Amit Singh, dismissed the surrender application filed by Shivam Mishra’s driver, Mohan Lal, holding that Shivam was the accused as per the police investigation.
While rejecting the driver’s plea on Wednesday, the court had noted that Mohan Lal was not named in the FIR nor did his name emerge during the investigation. “The applicant was neither named in FIR, nor his name cropped up in the police investigation. Therefore, his application has no merit and is liable to be dismissed,” the magistrate said.
Two applications had been filed before the court on Tuesday — one by the driver seeking judicial custody and another by the car owner seeking the release of the Lamborghini, valued at over Rs 10 crore. Both were opposed by the prosecution.
