Ageing EVMs, more booths: EC seeks Rs 500 crore ahead of 2029 polls

The Election Commission of India is preparing for the 2029 general elections. It needs over ₹500 crore to buy new electronic voting machines. This is because the number of polling stations will increase significantly. Older machines will also be retired. The new machines will ensure smooth voting. This purchase addresses a shortfall in available machines.
