A landmark study published in the Journal of Nutrition reveals that B12 deficiency impairs skeletal muscle mitochondrial energy production. Low vitamin B12 status is associated with reduced muscle mass and weakened cellular resilience. Around one in four older adults carries suboptimal B12 levels. Supplementation in aged mice improved mitochondrial muscle function. Human trials are the next step — but the science of B12 and aging just got significantly more serious.
