Cabinet Extends UDAN Scheme To 2036 With ₹28,840 Crore Outlay Amid 50% Route Closure Rate

The Union Cabinet has approved a 10-year extension of the UDAN regional connectivity scheme with a budget of Rs 28,840 crore, aiming to connect 120 new destinations. The revamped plan includes funding support for airlines, development of 100 airports and 200 helipads. However, nearly half of the 663 routes launched so far have shut down, raising concerns over commercial viability.
