Policymakers are considering a cap at $100,000 for married couples and $50,000 for individuals to improve Social Security solvency. Most retirees would not be affected. The cap targets only top earners. With the Social Security trust fund facing depletion by 2035, limiting high-income benefits is a practical step to protect future retirement security.
