Japan votes in snap election as PM Sanae Takaichi seeks mandate, vows to resign if coalition falls short

Japan voted in a general election as Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi sought a mandate to advance economic and security policies. She pledged to resign if her coalition fails to win a majority, amid inflation concerns, defence debates and scrutiny over plans to revise the Constitution.
