Oncologist Dr Vartika Vishwani recommends adopting a simple daily habit—eating one fruit a day—to support long-term health. Experts say fruits provide essential nutrients such as vitamins, antioxidants, fibre and phytochemicals that help reduce oxidative stress and chronic inflammation, both linked to cancer risk. According to Dr K Sreekanth, regular fruit intake also supports immune function, gut health and weight management, which are important for lowering the risk of diseases like colorectal cancer. Nutrition expert MS Dnyaneshwari Barve adds that whole fruits are convenient, require no preparation and can help curb cravings for processed foods. While no single food can prevent cancer, experts emphasise that regularly including fruits in a balanced diet, along with healthy lifestyle habits, can significantly support overall wellbeing.
