India fell to 157th rank in the 2026 World Press Freedom Index by Reporters Without Borders, down from 151 last year. The report cited rising judicial pressure on media. Globally, press freedom declined in 100 countries, with over half now classified as “difficult” or “very serious,” marking a historic low.
